Pedestrian protection by cars has taken a step forward, according to the latest batch of Euro NCAP crash test results.

The Honda FR-V and Suzuki Swift both managed to win three out of four stars for pedestrian protection in today’s round of three results. Each also managed to scoop a creditable four out of five stars for occupant protection.

The Peugeot 1007 achieved the highest ever overall result for a supermini. It won five stars for occupant protection, although this was tempered by the fact that it scored only two for its ability to cushion pedestrians involved in a collision with it.

All three were put through the child protection trials with the Britax Duo Plus child restraint, and in each case scored three out of a possible four stars.
