Peugeot has revamped its 406 family car and estate ranges, adding satellite-navigation to all but entry-level versions and chopping up to £1300 off top-of-the-line models.
LX, Rapier and GLX specifications have been scrapped, and the range now consists of L, S, SE and Executive trim levels.
Prices start at £13,500 for an L-trimmed car using the 118bhp 1.8-litre petrol. That’s £5 more than before, reflecting the increase in Vehicle Excise Duty announced in April’s Budget. However, standard equipment now includes rear electric windows and alloy wheels.
Satellite-navigation is included on S trim and above, which starts at £14,400. SE models cost from £16,100, and 110bhp diesel models gain cruise control.
The biggest price cuts have been made on flagship Executive models. The 2.0 HDi Executive falls by £995 to £18,700, and the 2.2 HDi 136 Executive drops £1300 to £19,900. Cruise control is added to 110bhp diesel-powered cars, and all Executives are now equipped with traction control.
Prices and specifications for estate versions follow those of the saloons, with a £1000 premium. The 210bhp 3.0-litre V6 petrol has been dropped from the range, which will be replaced by the all-new 407 in 2004.
