Peugeot has pulled the wraps off the final production version of its new 407 Coupe, which goes on sale in the UK early next year.
The car is hard to distinguish from the 407 Prologue concept that made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year, and will take to the stands at the Frankfurt exhibition in September.
Peugeot describes the new coupe as a grand tourer. It has not revealed any prices yet, but expect it to cost a little more than the saloon it is based on, starting at around £20,000.
Unlike the previous 406 Coupe, which was designed by Pininfarina, Peugeot has developed the new Coupe in-house. The bold front end of the 407, with its long overhang, is further emphasised with striking shark-gill vents, while the rear of the car has a muscular look.
Peugeot said the interior of the car is more distinctive than its predecessors', but will not be showing it off until the Frankfurt show. Visit Whatcar.com on September 12 to see more.
Three engines will be available from launch, starting with a 160bhp 2.2-litre petrol. A pair of V6 units will also be on hand – the 3.0-litre petrol offering 211bhp and a new 2.7-litre diesel with an output of 205bhp.
The new diesel engine has been co-developed with Citroen and Ford and is being used in a large number of different models. It probably will not make it into the 407 saloon and estate until the middle of next year at the earliest.
