Safer, quieter Voyager

Chrysler has face-lifted its Voyager MPV, improving safety and adding a new, more powerful 2.8-litre diesel to the range.

In all, two petrol and two diesel engines are now available with the seven-seater MPV.

All Voyagers now provide side curtain airbags for all three rows of passengers and feature a new fascia, grille, headlamps, body-side mouldings and alloy wheels. The manufacturer says it has also made the MPV more refined, with noise levels in the cabin reduced by 16%.

Prices remain the same for the three current engines: the 2.4-litre petrol starts at £18,495 while the 3.3-litre petrol costs from £25,820; the 2.5-litre diesel in SE trim will set you back £19,720.

The new 2.8-litre model is the first diesel Voyager to be matched to an automatic gearbox. It carries a £750 premium over the equivalent 2.5, so a 2.8 LX auto costs £23,190.

The 2.8-litre auto is 9bhp more powerful than the 2.5-litre at 150bhp, and it is a little slower than the 2.5 manual, reaching 60mph in 12 rather than 11.9 seconds and topping out 3mph down at 112mph.

Combined fuel consumption is 7.3mpg worse than the 2.5 at 29.4mpg, while higher emissions means it fits into the 30% tax bracket rather than the 29% band. Performance figures for the rest of the range are unchanged.
