Kia will launch a bolder and more flexible Sedona MPV in spring 2006.

Although the new car will not be shown to the public for some months, company insiders told Whatcar.com to expect a more radical approach than today’s keenly priced but conventional large people-carrier. ‘The design is far more modern and contemporary than today's Sedona,’ said one Kia insider who had been shown the car in Korea.

It is likely to take many cues from the long-wheelbase Sedona pictured here.

This larger version of the car is unlikely to come to Europe, but the new UK model will still have space for seven, with seats arranged in a two-three-two layout.

The two rearmost seats will be removable, while the centre bench will fold and tumble forward to allow owners to juggle passenger and luggage space.

Big improvements are promised under the skin, too. The car’s underpinnings are new, so ride and handling should take a big step forward. A new range of petrol and diesel engines should deliver greater refinement and better performance.

Expect prices to rise slightly from today’s starting point of £14,500 when the new Sedona reaches showrooms in spring 2006.
