More pictures of Mitsubishi's sporty new small family car have been released by the manufacturer.

Mitsubishi says the Concept Sportback gives very clear indications about its next wave of Ford Focus-sized Lancers, due to arrive in 2007. The concept will make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.

Although the aggressive grille and bonnet scoops are likely to be lost from mass market versions, they will almost certainly appear on future Evo performance models.

The manufacturer says the concept’s platform will be used for a range of models over the next three years including a new compact 4x4 to rival the likes of Nissan's X-Trail.
