Smart’s new Forfour supermini, which goes on sale in September, will cost from £7995 for a limited period only.
The introductory price is for the Black special edition, of which 245 will be built. The standard Forfour range will cost from £8995 to £12,370.
The special edition uses a 75bhp 1.1-litre petrol engine and has the same equipment as the standard entry-level model, but is only available in black.
Two trims are available on standard Forfours: Pulse and Passion. Pulse models are fitted with anti-lock brakes, stability control, twin front and side airbags, remote central locking, electric windows and power steering.
Passion models are £1375 more expensive and gain a height-adjustable driver’s seat, air-conditioning, alloy wheels, full-length sunroof and front foglights.
Besides the 1.1-litre petrol engine, buyers can also opt for a 95bhp 1.3-litre, starting at £9995, or a 109bhp 1.5-litre costing from £10,995. Two 1.5-litre diesel models are available, a 68bhp version costing from £9995 or a 95bhp version from £10,995.
The Forfour is the first Smart to cater for more than two people and can seat up to five. It is also the first Smart to be offered with a manual gearbox.
Smart’s Softouch transmission is also available as a £375 option. This applies the clutch for the driver and offers a fully automatic mode as well as the option to select gears manually.
