Priced from £24,695, the new arrival is 33bhp more powerful than the existing 2.0-litre turbo model, which costs £20,995.
The dash to 60mph takes just 6.0sec, which is 1.9sec quicker than the 2.0-litre. Top speed is increased by 15mph to 140mph.
Fuel economy is 25.7mpg on the combined cycle, but an increase in emissions moves the 2.5-litre Forester into the top 35% tax band.
The new addition is set apart from other models by 12-spoke alloy wheels, sports seats, silver-rimmed instruments and a black leather interior as standar
