The radical Signum II concept from Vauxhall gets its UK debut at the Scottish Motor Show in November alongside a hot new Zafira MPV.
The Signum II, which first broke cover in September at the Frankfurt show, is tipped to join the Vectra line-up. Vauxhall says the new car will not top its range and insists the Omega will get its own replacement 'in due course'.
Possibly called the Vectrum when it goes on sale, the near-production ready five-door coupe/estate concept uses radical MPV-style one-box packaging in a sector dominated by four-door saloons and Ford Mondeo-style hatchbacks.
Sharing the stand with the Vauxhall concept will be the 2.0-litre turbocharged Zafira. Its 188bhp output makes it the most powerful MPV in Europe, with a claimed top speed of 137mph and a 0-60mph time of around eight seconds.
The hot Zafira outpaces the market-leading Citroen Xsara Picasso by around 3.5sec but the Vauxhall will cost £6000 more at around £20,000. Such power takes its toll on fuel consumption and the fiery seven-seater returns just 28.5mpg, 7mpg down on the fastest Picasso and 14.3mpg worse than the most frugal 2.0-litre DTi Zafira.
Beefier bodykit including wider wheelarches, a new front and rear spoiler, side skirts and Recaro bucket seats, visually enhance the extra performance.
The Scottish Motor Show will be held at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow from November 9-18.
