Vauxhall launches cheaper Meriva

16 September 2003

Buyers can now get a Vauxhall Meriva mini-MPV for less than £10,000 following the launch of a new entry-level model.

The new Expression costs from £9995 with the 1.6-litre petrol engine, £1000 less than the next-cheapest Life model.

Expression trim misses out on the electric windows and mirrors fitted to Life cars, and gets 14-inch wheels rather than the Life’s 15-inch items. Metallic paint is not available on the new base spec.

It does have remote central locking, twin front airbags, anti-lock brakes and a flexible seating layout as standard, however.

A new 1.7-litre diesel engine will be offered from October 1 and will cost from £12,470 in Expression trim. It meets Euro IV emissions standards, so will be exempt from the usual 3% company car tax penalty and sit into the lowest 15% tax band.
