Vauxhall’s new three-door Astra Sport Hatch will cost the same as the five-door version, with entry-level models priced at £13,795.
While three-door cars are usually cheaper than their five-door equivalents, Vauxhall is pitching the Sport Hatch as a coupe rather than a straight hatchback. With this in mind, it has also decided to offer it only in SXi, Design or SRi trim levels.
On sale from April 10, 2005, the cheapest model in the range is an 89bhp 1.4-litre petrol SXi. The range tops out at £17,495 for an SRi powered by a 148bhp 1.9 CDTi diesel.
Other petrol engines on offer are the 104bhp 1.6-litre, the 123bhp 1.8-litre and the 168bhp 2.0-litre unit. A 99bhp 1.7-litre and 119bhp 1.9-litre diesel are also available. A range-topping 240bhp VXR version of the Sport Hatch arrives in the summer. Vauxhall has promised that it will cost less than £20,000.
All models get sport suspension, alloy wheels, air-conditioning, electric mirrors and windows, a CD player, front, side and curtain airbags and remote central locking. The SRi has larger alloy wheels, an alarm and traction control. It also has a Sports mode switch, which adjusts the steering, throttle and suspension settings. Design models add half-leather seats and automatic windscreen wipers instead.
The Panoramic glass roof option, where the windscreen sweep back over the heads of the driver and front passenger, costs £850.
