The first 'green' Ecoflex model in the new Vauxhall Astra range will go on sale in April.
With CO2 emissions of 109g/km and average economy of 67.3mpg, the Ecoflex Astra is 12% more economical than the 1.7 CDTi model, which is currently the most efficient version in the range.
The new model uses the 1.3 CDTi engine that has recently been added to the Corsa range, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox and a gearshift light to show drivers the most efficient gear to be in.
On top of that, the car also features a host of aerodynamic aids, including an active shutter, which automatically closes at high speeds to smooth the airflow around the front of the car.
Buyers have a choice of four trims: S, Exclusiv, SE and, for the first time in a five-door Ecoflex model, sporty SRi. Prices start at £17,920 and rise to £20,320. All versions qualify for an annual road tax rate of £35 and 13% benefit in kind tax liability for company car drivers.
