The Jaguar XFR-S

The Jaguar XFR-S has been unveiled at the 2012 LA Auto Show. It's Jaguar's fastest and most powerful saloon ever and goes on sale in May, for £79,995.

The range-topping Jaguar XF builds on the same formula as the XKR-S Coupe and Convertible. It's based on the XFR model, but power from the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 has been boosted by 39bhp to 542bhp and torque is now a thumping 502lb ft – all going through a newly developed eight-speed 'Quickshift' auto 'box, which will also be used by the forthcoming F-type sports car.

These upgrades mean the XFR-S can now sprint to 60mph in 4.4 seconds (a 0.3-second improvement) and go on to 186mph. Fuel consumption and emissions stay the same, aided by an engine stop-start system for the first time.

Jaguar engineers claim that the XFR-S is both more agile and more confidence-inspiring than the standard version. Technical changes include revised front and rear suspension, along with tweaks to the electronic safety systems that make it more entertaining to drive.
