The Mercedes E-Class has been given a face-lift and more standard equipment, but prices have also risen.
The entry-level E220 CDI SE will cost £32,400, which is £2280 more than the outgoing car. Like before, SE cars come with alloys, leather-effect upholstery and climate control, but 2013 cars will also get DAB radio and satellite-navigation as standard.
A simplified trim structure contains just two levels – SE and AMG Sport. AMG Sport versions cost £2495 more than SE cars and bring a host of visual upgrades inside and out, plus firmer sports suspension.
The engine line-up includes two new turbocharged 2.0-litre petrols with either 181bhp or 208bhp. The 5.5-litre E63 AMG is the only other petrol-powered E-Class, and comes with 550bhp or 577bhp.
Diesel options include two four-cylinder engines with either 168bhp or 201bhp, and a 248bhp V6. There's also a 201bhp hybrid that combines the four-cylinder diesel with an electric motor.
All versions – the entry-level E220 CDI, aside – come with a seven-speed automatic gearbox as standard. The E220 CDI comes with a six-speed manual, but buyers can add the auto 'box for £1520.
