Toyota RAV4

The Toyota RAV4 has been going strong for almost 20 years, and this latest model has addressed many of the issues that hampered its predecessor.

The new car gets a lower driving position, while the side-opening tailgate has been replaced with a more practical top-hinged arrangement.

Toyota has also addressed complaints about poor forward visibility by giving the car slim front pillars, while comfort has also been a focus for its designers.

The car maker has also managed to do all of this and slash the price of the entry-level version by an impressive £1745 – thanks to the new 2WD 2.0-litre diesel that has joined the range.

With a starting price of £22,595, the RAV4 is still pricier than rivals such as the Honda CR-V and Nissan Qashqai, but does it shine in other areas? We asked members of the What Car? Reader Test Team to give us their views.
