2014 BMW X3 face-lift revealed

The BMW X3 has been given a fresher face and its all-diesel engine line-up has been tweaked to improve performance, economy and emissions.

Outside, the SUV gets new front and rear bumpers, new door mirrors, new headlights (available with optional full LED lighting), four new paint colours and five new wheel designs. The X3 is also one centimetre longer than before.

Little has changed inside, although new cupholders have been added to the centre console and a leather-covered steering wheel is standard on all models. There are also four new upholstery colours to choose from.

A new trim level – xLine – sits between the existing SE and M Sport trim levels. It adds £1500 to the SE models’ prices and brings extra interior and exterior trim, plus bespoke 18-inch alloy wheels. M Sport models cost another £1500, while an M Sport Plus pack (£2920) adds 20-inch bicolour alloy wheels, xenon headlights and Harman-Kardon speakers.

The entry-level 2.0-litre diesel engine (in the two-wheel-drive sDrive18d) now emits 9g/km CO2 less than before, at 124g/km, and averages 60.1mpg, while the four-wheel-drive xDrive20d averages 56.5mpg and 131g/km. The range-topping xDrive35d has 309bhp for a 0-62mph time of 5.3 seconds; it averages 47.1mpg.
