This is the new Bentley SUV, shown in a single image ahead of an expected sales debut in 2016. The model is rumoured to be taking the Falcon name in production.
What is it?
Bentley's first-ever SUV model. Bentley showed a concept SUV in 2014, but the new version seen in the sole image released appears to have been adapted to fall more in line with the rest of the brand's line-up. 'It has completely changed from the concept,' said Bentley chairman Wolfgang Schreiber.
'We are hitting our targets so far on the SUV,' said Schreiber, who also revealed that the latest development model will start its winter testing programme later this week.
What engines can I choose from?
Bentley has not issued specific technical details on the car, but senior sources have confirmed that it will get the firm's W12 engine, and that a plug-in hybrid version is likely from 2017.
How much equipment does it come with?
This is also unknown at this stage, but expect the car to be the most luxurious SUV out there.
'There will be more than one derivative, more than one trim level and we're factoring in things like Mulliner [Bentley's customisation department],' said the company's sales and marketing, boss Kevin Rose.
How much will it cost?
There's no news yet, but Bentley has said that the Falcon's pricing will start 'just above' where top-end Range Rovers stop, so expect a price of around £130,000.
Can I get a discount?
Very unlikely. The model is hugely desirable and long waiting lists are expected initially; hundreds of cutsomers have already placed deposits without ever seeing the car.
How good are its rivals?
The Bentley SUV will compete on its own in the marketplace as a SUV costing more than £130,000. Its obvious rival is the Range Rover, specifically the luxurious range-topping Autobiography versions, which we rate as a four-star car in SDV8 form.
Anything else I should know?
We'd expect to see the Bentley Falcon SUV before 2015 is out, ahead of a 2016 launch.
