Think Mexico and you'll think of chilli beans, droopy moustaches and sombreros - not a supercar.

Now you'll have to think again, because the Mastretta MXT unveiled at the British motor show is, according to its maker, the first car designed and built in Mexico.

Would you buy a car from a nation best-known for sleeping under a tree during the lunch hour? Well, you might if you have cash to spare and a penchant for supercars with a difference.

Powered by a 239bhp 2.0-litre Ford engine, and weighing less than 900kg, this rear-wheel-drive sports car sprints from 0-60mph in less than five seconds, going on to a limited top speed of 150mph.

Weight-saving touches include a semi-monocoque chassis made of aluminium, and fibreglass body panels.

It will be distributed in the UK by Lifestyle Automotive, and full production is to start in January next year, with prices starting from 32,999.

Chances of seeing it on the road Someone, somewhere will want to stand out this much.
