Parents are being urged to car share, after research revealed that there are more than half a million empty car seats on the school run each day.

The study, by Honda, revealed that almost half of all parents take just one child in their car on the school run, despite 60% admitting that they knew a child who lived within 500 metres of their home that attended the same school.

That means more than 500,000 cars could be removed from Britain's roads each day if half of parents on the school run agreed to give a lift to one additional child.

However, the survey did discover that almost half the respondents said they would like to lift share in future, recognising the environmental, financial and congestion benefits of doing so.

What do you think?
As environmental pressures grow, do parents have a moral obligation to enter into lift sharing schemes for the school run?
