Overall

Performance
These performed much better than the cheaper Polaroid Phoenix 4811Cs and certainly improved contrast. Still, the Expeditions couldn't match the more expensive glasses at coping with glare. The frame design did allow light to creep around the nose and bottom, and some of our testers found the bulky arms uncomfortable.

Buying
They're half the price of the winners, but our mystery shoppers couldn't find any saving on the RRP. The price did include delivery and a zip-up fabric case, though. They are also available with grey and light green lenses, but the brown ones are best for driving.

Quality
The Polaroids looked and felt a bit cheap. The mock tortoiseshell arms won't appeal to everyone, but the hinges did feel sturdy. The frames were metal, and the lenses were made from a 'top secret' plastic formula under the code name PTX4000 - Polaroid won't tell us any more than that!

Special features
Scratch- and shatter-proof PTX4000 lenses should help keep the Expeditions in good condition. The lenses also feature two layers of UV light absorbers, and the brown-tinted versions (2702As) are designed to make red (brake and traffic lights, etc) stand out in bright glare.
