A touch of class - Introduction

21 April 2005
In Mercedes’ apparent quest to cover the whole alphabet, the B-Class aims to fit the gap between, you guessed it, the A- and C-Class.

In spite of the shape, this is no midi-MPV – think of it more as a very spacious, comfortable, prestigious family car with bags of room for passengers and luggage, but without the ultimate flexibility and clever touches of an MPV. It’s more of a rival for something like a VW Passat estate than a Renault Scenic.

The B-Class shares much with the A-Class including many of the engines, some bits of the interior and the clever sandwich floor, which aids both safety and packaging. However, it’s pricey. The B-Class goes on sale in September and we expect prices to start at around £17,000 for the entry-level B150 rising to around £23,000 for the B200 Turbo.
