Audi's A5 cabriolet will sport a fabric roof when if goes on sale here next year.
The soft-top will buck the current trend of having a folding metal roof, such as that found in its closest rival, the BMW 3 Series Convertible. Mercedes' next CLK drop-top will also stick with a fabric roof.
Audi hasn't confirmed prices yet, but expect to pay around £32,000 for an entry-level A5 cabriolet - about £5000 more than for an equivalent coupe.
The coupe starts at just over £30,000, but cheaper models are on their way - a 2.0-litre diesel and 1.8T FSI petrol model will be available the end of this year from around £27,000.
