Buyers of the new Ford Mondeo now have the option of fitting it with computer-controlled active suspension, which adapts the ride according to the road surface.
Called Interactive Vehicle Dynamic Control (IVDC), the system offers sports, comfort and regular suspension settings.
Once selected, the suspension reacts via seven sensors, providing up to 10 suspension adjustments a second to ensure the best possible handling characteristics at all times.
In combination with the Mondeo's other safety systems such as anti-lock brakes and stability control, Ford estimates braking distances can be reduced by up to 10%.
The system is available at Zetec, Ghia, Titanium and Titanium X trim levels and costs £650.
