The all-new Volkswagen Sharan MPV is available to order now with prices starting at £22,980.
That buys a 148bhp 1.4-litre TSI petrol with a six-speed manual gearbox in S-specification. A DSG semi-automatic version of this car is £1235 more at £24,215.
In all there are four engines – two petrol and two diesel – and four trims to choose from.
Trims
Top-of-the-range Executive models are six seaters, but the rest of the range can accommodate seven people. The seats fold down to create a flat floor, while the second row also tilts forward to allow easier access to the third row.
All versions are equipped with twin sliding rear doors (with electric operation for an extra £610), a full set of airbags covering all three rows of seats, stability control, dual-zone climate control, an eight-speaker stereo with an MP3 interface, front and rear electric windows, heated and electrically adjustable door mirrors and remote central locking.
SE cars also get alloy wheels, Bluetooth, cruise control, a pair of cupholders, automatic lights and wipers, seatback tables, underfloor storage, leather-trimmed steering wheel with remote controls and parking sensors.
A move up to SEL adds different trims and detailing, inside and out, as well as Alcantara upholstery. The cabins of executive models are finished with leather upholstery.
Options
Besides electric operation of the doors, other extras include:
• keyless entry for £345
• integrated booster seats for the second row at £190 each
• panoramic sunroof from £940
• three-zone climate control for £100
• adaptive chassis control with three settings for £760
• winter park with heated front seats and washer jets for £185
