All-new Skoda Fabia due for 2014

  • Brand-new Skoda Fabia due next year
  • Will be wider and more spacious than the current car
  • Styling to be brought into line with latest Octavia
The Skoda Fabia supermini will be replaced with an all-new model next year.

Senior sources at Skoda have revealed to What Car? that the next-generation Fabia will not be any longer than the current car, but will get a longer wheelbase, creating more space inside. It will also be wider than today's car.

It will also undergo a design overhaul, making it look more contemporary than the current version and much more in keeping with the look of the latest Octavia. The current car has been criticised because of its dowdy image and Skoda insiders are keen to present a much more dynamic and youthful image.

Inside, the new Fabia will get a huge uplift in cabin quality and be available with the latest-generation infotainment options from the VW Group.

Huge engineering changes are also planned to improve economy and refinement. The new version will be lighter than the current car and be fitted with the latest VW Group three- and four-cylinder diesel and petrol engines, including the 60bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder that's currently in the Citigo city car. Insiders are also predicting a big step forward for ride and handling.
