Audi A1 review

With the Audi A1's odometer reading dangerously close to 10,000 miles, I had a little panic and wondered if the car was in imminent need of a service.

Thing is, the A1 comes with a choice of service plans: one if you do fewer that 10,000 miles a year, or one if you do more.

Thankfully, our A1 is on the latter of the two plans so, as the Audi MMI system told me when I used its 'car' function, I have around 9000 miles until it's due for the first service.

Can you get any bulky fitness equipment in the back of the diddy A1? The answer, surprisingly, is ‘yes’.

In a bid to stay healthy despite my sweet tooth, I ordered an exercise bike the other week and got it delivered to the office. All I had to do was find a way to get it home.

I wasn’t too hopeful of getting the bike in the back of the A1 but, with the seats folded flat and the passenger seat brought all the way forward, the bulky package fitted in. Good news all round.

There’s one thing about the A1 that’s bugging me a bit: the looks.

I do like how it’s been designed – it’s neat little package – but, as you can see from the picture, the A1 doesn’t look that different to the A5 Sportback from the front. It’s the same with most of the rest of the Audi range.

I think that’s a shame, because even though the Audi design style is well represented across the model line-ups, it’s slightly characterless to look at. It’s the one thing my previous long-termer - the Nissan Juke has over the A1.
