Aston has joined the Motor Codes scheme, committing itself to the Motor Industry Code of Practice for New Cars, which regulates the advertising, sale, warranty, replacement parts availability and complaint-handling processes for new cars.
A total of 39 manufacturers have now subscribed to the voluntary, self-regulatory code, which covers 99% of all new cars registered in the UK. The code is designed to raise and maintain standards in the service and repair, new car and vehicle warranty sectors.
Now open to 'niche' car makers
The New Car Code was the first set of regulations to receive full approval from the Office of Fair Trading. The codes were applied first to high-volume car makers, but Motor Codes recently received Government approval to expand its Code to niche and specialist car makers.
'Since opening up the New Car Code to all new car manufacturers, the Motor Codes team has seen strong interest from several brands keen to step up to the mark in delivering the highest standards of customers service,' said Chris Mason, Motor Codes director. 'We are confident that more specialist makers will follow the example of Aston now that Government has approved their inclusion in our Code.'
The three codes
The New Car Code is one of three codes administered by Motor Codes, alongside the Vehicle Warranty Products Code and the Service and Repair Code. Together, they commit subscribing garages to honest and fair service, competent and conscientious staff, and a straightforward and swift complaints procedure.
They also give motorists access to a free advice line, an online garage finder to locate the nearest subscribing garage, plus free conciliation and low-cost, legally binding arbitration.
