Based on the R8 Spyder V10, the GT drops over 100kg of weight, thanks to various weight-saving measures including a carbonfibre windscreen surround and a fixed rear wing in place of the standard R8’s motorised lifting rear spoiler.
The car's 0-62mph time is less than four seconds and top speed is close to 200mph thanks to a version of the R8’s V10, tweaked to produce 553bhp. Ceramic brakes and full LED lights will also feature.
The interior, shown in our design sketches, will also be stripped of some weight, but shouldn’t be ravaged of too much luxury.
How much and when?
If you fancy this ultimate R8, you’ll probably have to find close to £150,000, but as with most R8s, you’ll have to get in quick.
The car will make its debut at this year’s Le Mans 24-hour race in June and September’s Frankfurt motor show before going on sale in spring 2012.
