Audi plans Nissan Juke rival

  • A1-based SUV would be called Q1
  • No plans for Up-based city car
  • Nanuk concept could also get green light

Audi will build more SUVs and crossovers, but it will not make an upmarket city car based on the Up, according to the company's new UK boss, Andre Konsbruck.

Konsbruck told What Car? that a priority for Audi was an SUV to sit below the Q3, possibly called Q1. Such a car would probably share the architecture and engines with the successful A1 small car and be a more upmarket alterative to a Renault Captur or Nissan Juke. 'These sectors are booming and there are good opportunities for us,' said Konsbruck.

The Audi UK chief also revealed that other SUVs could be on the way, including a rival for the BMW X6 and the possibility that the Nanuk concept, a radical SUV-style coupe, could make it into production. 'Every concept has the possibility of being put into production,' he said.
