It's based on the Audi A4, comes with a 444bhp 4.2-litre V8 petrol engine and is available in Avant estate form only.
Power is sent through a seven-speed S tronic semi-auto gearbox and permanent four-wheel drive, while a centre differential splits it between the front and rear axles - sending up to 70% of drive to the front wheels and as much as 85% to the rears.
Top speed is 155mph and it blasts from 0-62mph in 4.7 seconds.
A black honeycomb grille, aluminium door mirrors, a small rear spoiler, twin oval exhausts and bespoke bumpers mark the RS4 apart from the standard A4 Avant. It comes with 19-inch alloys as standard, with 20-inch rims an option.
The RS4 also sits 20mm lower than the standard car, and has bulging wheelarches.
All-black interior trim is standard, but silver roof lining can be specified as an option. Standard equipment includes heated, powered seats in leather and Alcantara, aluminium gearshift paddles and a lap timer.
Options include bucket seats, Bluetooth and internet connectivity.
The RS4 Avant will come to the UK later this year as rival for the as the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG estate.
There will be no direct BMW rival: Audi says there are currently no plans for a saloon version, while BMW has no plans for a BMW M3 Touring.
