When good technology works well it makes life easier. Thankfully, there's plenty of good tech in the Mazda 6.

For instance, the control set-up in the centre console is well placed and exactly the right size for your hand, and the weight and feel when you twist to find various functions is excellent. The on-screen display is bang in the middle of the dash and doesn't suffer from reflections so reading the graphics is easy.

The sat-nav is also much simpler and easier to use than other systems I've tried.

I climb into this car every night knowing it will be comfortable, relaxing and most of all enjoyable to drive home. See? Technology working well and making life easier.

The Mazda was returned to me this week after being away for six weeks to have its clutch replaced. So far, the problem I had of a juddering clutch in first gear or slow traffic has gone away and everything is far smoother on pick-up.

I'm off on holiday in a couple of weeks and am looking forward to seeing how the 6 copes with four people and their luggage - it'll test its practically and comfort to the max.

I've been comparing my car's boot with our Jaguar XF Sportbrake's and found that the Mazda's is just as deep but doesn't have the Jag's height. My car's engine is far nicer than the Jag's, though, so that's the car I'm taking on my hols.
