A lot of miles for our new Range Rover this week, so we can assume that its well and truly run in. A few early observations are that the fuel consumption is mighty impressive: 33.5mpg at motorway cruising speeds.

Not as impressive as its cruising refinement though. Wind and road noise are terrifically muffled for such a tall, bluff-fronted car.

My reservations about the ride quality served up by the huge 22-inch wheels are so far unfounded as well. Yes, there’s the occassionally thunk, but it’s proving extremely supple at high speeds.

So, all looking good.

This is the latest addition to the What Car? long term fleet: a Range Rover Vogue SE, our current luxury car of the year.

As it's only just turned up from Land Rover HQ we've yet to turn a wheel. But it certainly looks imperious in the car park in Orkney Grey metallic and standing on optional 22-inch wheels.

From what we already know about the Range Rover, it's going to be equally impressive to live with as well. But we'll know much more about that next week when we'll give the full lowdown on the exact spec we've chosen and our running in impressions.
