The next-generation Renaultsport Megane is likely to be available with an automatic gearbox only - no manual version will be offered.
This follows the decision to equip the new Clio 200 with Renault's six-speed twin-clutch EDC 'box as standard.
A modified version of same gearbox may feature in the next hot Megane. If it does, it would offer launch control and be able to swap ratios in as little as 150 milliseconds.
'We know we're early with this, but we see [auto gearboxes] as the future', said Jeremy Townsend, communications director of Renault UK.
