BMW adds low-power diesel to 5 GT range

BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo ownership is now more affordable, thanks to the introduction of a new entry-level 520d version.

Power comes from the same engine that's available for the BMW 5 Series saloon and Touring models and cuts the entry price for the 5 GT down to £36,605. The previous entry-level 530d SE costs £45,980.

The 520d GT comes with a full selection of BMW’s Efficient Dynamics technology – including stop-start and Eco Pro mode – which results in emissions of just 139g/km and average economy of 53.3mpg.

These efficiency measures are also now available on all other versions of the Gran Turismo. The 530d's emissions fall by 20g/km to 153g/km, while economy improves by 5.2mpg to 48.7mpg.

There are price increases, however; £375 for the 535i, £495 for the six-cylinder diesels, and £875 for the 550i.

Elsewhere in the 5 Series range, the ActiveHybrid 5 now offers M Sport trim. This comes with all the usual M Sport styling and equipment enhancements, but does not add the stiffer suspension and details on the doorsills. It costs £50,190.

Finally, all BMW 5 Series Touring models now come with the automatic tailgate as standard – along with a £250 increase in price. All 5 Series variants will also get voice control as a free addition.
