This is how BMW's baby 4x4 could look when it is launched in 2010.
The X1 four-seater will be based on the 1 Series, but will borrow the four-wheel-drive system and suspension from the X3.
It will be powered by a variety of petrol and diesel engines, producing between 145bhp and 230bhp.
Aimed at young families and active single people, the car is expected to cost around £25,000.
The car will compete with the Toyota RAV4, Audi's Volkswagen Tiguan-derived Q3 (due in 2010) and Mercedes-Benz's GLK (due in 2009).
