BMW's M3 convertible revealed

  • Third car in performance range
  • 0-62mph time of 5.3 seconds
  • Expected to cost from £54,000
BMW has released pictures of the M3 convertible, the third variant in its 3 Series performance range.

Powered by the same 414bhp 4.0-litre engine as the saloon and coupe, the car's body structure has been reinforced to reduce flexing, and the suspension modified to ensure handling remains sharp.

The hard-top roof and its folding mechanism increase the car's weight by 135kg over the coupe, giving the car a total weight of 1790kg.

That reduces performance slightly, with the 0-62mph time now 5.3sec, 0.4sec slower than the coupe. The average fuel consumption also falls from 22.8mph to 21.0 mpg.

The car also features an air-conditioning system that takes the outside temperature into account when the roof is down.

No prices have been revealed, but it is expected to cost from £54,000.

The M3 Convertible will go on sale late this year, while the M3 saloon goes on sale in March priced at £49,210. The coupe is already on sale, costing £50,625.
