Britain's best scrappage buys - Introduction

Looking for a cheapy? Well, the scrappage deals are mouth-watering. So, go on, check out our favourites, then join the celebrations

The scrappage scheme is a great way to buy a new car. Many savvy shoppers have already used it to save an extra £2000 on their long wished-for upgrade.

Remember, though, the incentive punches hardest when you buy a really cheap car. That's because the £2000 saving (or sometimes more) is a healthier proportion of the asking price than it is of an expensive car. Best of all, of course, scrappage gets you out of your polluting old banger and into a safer, greener, new one.

There are loads of budget deals to choose from, too, so we've rounded up Britain's best scrappage buys. Some can be snapped up for as little as £4500 but, apart from price, we've also considered how good they are, how much standard equipment they come with, and how much they'll cost to run.

Top help people with a slightly bigger budget, we've also asked members of the What Car? team for their scrappage 'wild cards'.
