This car is the priciest of our scrappage buys. It's one heck of a deal nonetheless, because Renault will knock a further £1500 off the price on top of the £2000 scrappage incentive.

The recently restyled Clio looks sharp and is great to drive, and this entry-level Extreme model (available only as a three-door model) is surprisingly well kitted. Air-conditioning (£550) is the only option many buyers consider.

If decent space is important and the Hyundai i20 and Skoda Fabia aren't the right cars for you, then the Clio is as good as scrappage buys get.
