British International Motor Show - BMW

18 July 2006
World Debut!
If you making your way through this show report alphabetically, this is the first world debut for the British Motor Show. Considering we're only at 'B' that's pretty good going we reckon.

The BMW M6 Convertible has never seen the light of day before, so drop by to take a look.

When the M6 Coupe was unveiled in December 2004, BMW said it was unsure whether it would ever produce a convertible version, so it's good to see it here a year-and-a-half later.

Power comes from the same 500bhp 5.0-litre V10 that powers the coupe and the M5 saloon, so this drop-top is one of the fastest money can buy.

Get really obnoxious at the traffic lights and you can sprint from 0-62mph in just 4.8sec, which is only 0.2sec down on the coupe. Top speed is restricted to 'just' 155mph.

Pricey?
Oh, yes.

Drop-tops are always more expensive than their coupe siblings, because of the additional work that goes into strengthening the chassis, although the M6 Convertible obviously won't have the expense of the high-tech carbon-fibre roof that graces the £81,760 Coupe.

That means that the M6 convertible costs a tasty £86,400. Better start saving...
