British International Motor Show - Daihatsu

18 July 2006
What can I see?
The new Terios mini-4x4 makes its UK debut at this year's motor show, as does the recently face-lifted Charade city car.

The Terios offers permanent four-wheel drive for just £12,995. The 1.5-litre engine gives a modest 103bhp, but it should provide an average of 35.8mpg. It comes well equipped, too, with air-conditioning, four airbags, a CD player and remote central locking.

It didn't dazzle us during a recent group test, but it provides an interesting alternative for 4x4 buyers on a budget.

The new Charade has enjoyed only minor revisions, but much-needed ones. It now has a smarter interior, more comfortable seats, and stiffer suspension for more assured handling. It also receives a more comprehensive specification, with air-conditioning now standard.

Is that it?
Not quite. The company has also announced a fairly major expansion programme, which will see the release of three all-new models in the space of the next 12 months.

It has remained very tight-lipped about the specific details of these models, and what sort of cars they might be, however. We're also told that even more new models are in the pipeline, but these will be longer in coming.
