Cadillac challenges the Germans head-on

Friday, November 02, 2007

Cadillac is taking the fight to its German rivals with a range of innovations to its BLS compact executive and CTS executive cars.

In the BLS, Cadillac's BMW 3 Series rival, 2.8 V6 petrol models will have all-wheel drive from next year.

Meanwhile, company insiders have hinted that the next version of the car will come with rear-wheel drive to rival the similarly equipped Mercedes C-Class and BMW 3 Series, although there is no date for when the next model will be available.

The next version of the CTS executive car, on sale next month, will initially be offered with just petrol engines - a 2.8 V6 and two versions of a 3.6 V6.

However, a 2.9-litre diesel is planned for the car in 18 months' time.

The company is also considering bringing its equivalent of BMW's M and Mercedes AMG performance cars to the UK, known as the CTS V Series.

However, Cadillac has given no timescale of when we could see these cars.
