Cadillac CTS-V

Cadillac CTS-V

How committed to cracking the UK market is Cadillac?

We'll get a clear indication when the company makes up its mind whether to sell the CTS-V, a 550bhp range-topper that was unveiled at the Detroit motor show, in the UK.

At first, even though the car was always going to go on sale in Europe, UK bosses were indifferent. Now the signs are that the mood has changed and it will go on sale here in mid-2009, priced at around 60,000.

Sharing the same 6.2-litre engine as the Corvette ZR-1, albeit in slightly less tuned form, the car is packed with some of GM's latest technology.

Features include suspension that constantly adapts to the road surface, race-derived traction control, high-performance brakes and the option of a semi-automatic gearshift.

Bob Lutz, GM's vice chairman, has described it as 'the fastest four-door saloon in the world' and admits it has been extensively benchmarked against rivals from BMW and Mercedes.

Let's hope we get to find out if that's true.
