Nearly 17,000 cars are being recalled by six manufacturers in the latest batch of safety checks.
Land Rover has the largest recall and wants to check the brakes of 5617 Range Rover Sport models built between January last year and February this year. The company has found that wheel weights can rub the left front brake hose, anti-lock brakes speed sensor cables and brake pad wear indicator leads.
Lexus wants to replace the front seatbelt assemblies on 4038 GS300, GS430, IS220d and IS250 cars built between September last year and the end of January this year. In some cases the belt retractors can fail to release after locking, making them impossible to adjust.
Rear shock absorbers on 3743 BMW 5, 6 and 7 Series can fail and cause the body to drop onto the wheels of the car. Only cars built from the beginning of this year to the end of April are potentially affected.
Mazda has found the diesel engine on 2007 5 and 6 models may suddenly stall because of loosening bolts. Cars built between October and December last year are being recalled.
A short circuit in the heated windscreen washer nozzle of 1220 Vauxhall Vectra and Signum models could cause a fire. Vauxhall's solution is to disconnect the heated washers on the cars, which were built between January 2004 and December 2006.
The smallest of the recalls affects 167 diesel-engined Ford Focus C-Max cars built between February and June 2004. Oil feed holes could be misaligned, reducing flow and potentially causing the engine to seize without warning.
Owners of affected cars are being contacted by the relevant manufacturer by post with the offer of free checks and remedial work.
