Cars for kids: choosing the right car - Fancy something sporty?

31 August 2007
If you want to be the coolest kid at college, and you can afford to insure it, you can go for something sporty.

Here are three cars that are stylish, safe, fun to drive and won't cost the earth to run.

Citroën C2 1.6 GT ('03/53-'04/54)
Price from £4500

The C2 GT is a limited-edition model, but it is easy enough to find. It looks great and is good to drive, too. Reliability isn't great, however, so look out for low mileage and a full service history.

Fiat Panda 100HP (new)
List price £10,060

The Panda 100HP isn't that quick, but it's fun to drive and cheap to insure. Stability control and side and curtain airbags are optional.

Ford Puma 1.4 ('97/P-'03/03)
Price from £2000

The Puma offers cute coupe looks and brilliant handling for as little as £2000.

The 1.4 version is brisk enough, thanks to its low weight. The Puma is also pretty reliable.

Anti-lock brakes and a driver's airbag are standard.
