Caterham stops using Rover engines

- Ford 1.6-litre engines to be used instead

Caterham is to replace all MG Rover K-series engines in its Seven sports car range with Ford powerplants.
The K-series has been fitted to Sevens for 15 years, but MG Rover's closure has caused supply problems.
From the end of this year, Caterham will use Ford's 1.6-litre engine in 140 and 160bhp guises. An entry-level tuned version will be added to that line-up, but output has yet to be confirmed. The K-series powered cars are available in 120, 140 and 165bhp outputs.
Caterham has previously announced that a 210bhp 2.0-litre Ford engine will be used in the Superlight R400 from this summer, and already uses a 260bhp Cosworth-tuned Ford 2.3-litre in the CSR.
The full switch to Ford engines comes after Caterham evaluated more than 80 engines from 18 manufacturers, and the change will mark the 50th anniversary of the Seven.
