An unsuccessful former bidder for MG Rover has unveiled ambitious plans for a new British-built roadster inspired by the Austin Healey 3000.
Professor Krish Bhaskar fronted the Triple A bid for MG Rover but lost out to Chinese firm Nanjing.
Now he says he is in discussions with 'a number of potential partners' to develop a new roadster costing from £25,000 and capable of a 0-60mph sprint time of less than five seconds.
Although it clearly takes its look from the Austin Healey 3000, Bhaskar does not own the rights to the brand and is calling his plan Project Tempest.
There is no timescale on when production might start but Bhaskar is confident the bold project has a future. 'Since the performance and engineering specification of the vehicle was signed off a few weeks ago, we've been busy finalising body design and have drawn inspiration from the heyday of the British motor industry,' he said.
Bhaskar said all models will be electronically limited to 155mph. The most powerful version will be capable of accelerating from rest to 100mph and braking back to a standstill in less than 12 seconds.
