Vauxhall's sporty SRi badge is back - in the form of the Corsa SRi, which will be launched this autumn.

The warm hatch's 1.6-litre petrol engine boasts Peugeot 207 GT-matching performance figures, putting out 148bhp, accelerating from 0-60mph in 7.6 seconds and reaching a top speed of 130mph. It's expected to go on sale for £13,500.

The 1.7-litre diesel version of the car puts out 122bhp, accelerates from 0-60mph in 9.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 121mph. It is likely to sell at £14,200.

The chassis is lowered to improve handling, stability control is fitted as standard and the steering weight is adjusted electronically for greater feel in all conditions.

A front spoiler, body-coloured side sills, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a chrome sports exhaust and tailgate spoiler distinguish the car from conventional Corsas. There are also sports seats with red detailing, a leather steering wheel with red inserts, red seatbelts and alloy pedals.

The SRi will be available to order from June 23 and goes on sale in September. It follows the hot 189bhp Corsa VXR, which was launched in March as a rival to the Renault Clio Hatchback Renaultsport 197 Team R27.
