Peugeot 1007 Overall 5/5 stars
Front impact 100%
Side impact 94%
Child protection 69% 3/5 stars
Pedestrian test 28% 2/4 starsThe Peugeot 1007 has become only the second supermini to gain five stars for occupant protection in the Euro NCAP crash tests. It also has the accolade of being the highest-scoring supermini ever.
The Peugeot, which goes on sale in the UK in July, follows in the footsteps of the Renault Modus, which was the first supermini to gain five stars for occupant safety.
While adult and older child occupants are well looked after in the 1007, babies and pedestrians do not fare so well.
The car’ body proved strong, with minimal deformation to the footwell and screen areas. The airbags, seat belt pre-tensioners and load limiters all worked well during the test, keeping the loads on the front occupants’ chests and legs very low. Minimal intrusion further limited the risk of injury.
Testers were impressed with the 1007’s side-protection system, which includes seat-mounted thorax airbags and a head curtain airbag. However, maximum points were just out of reach due to the transfer of forces to the dummy’s spine.
Generally, child protection was good with an on-off switch for the passenger airbag and plenty of warnings against placing a rear-facing restraint opposite an active airbag. The older of the two child passengers was well protected, but the younger child suffered high loads to its head and chest.
The 1007 scored an average two stars for pedestrian protection. The bonnet offered some cushioning where an adult pedestrian’s head might strike it, but the child’ head zone offered less protection. Testers also noted that the car’ wings and the bonnet’s front edge offered little protection.
