Europe's car testing body, Euro NCAP, has released test results for the Hyundai i30, Ford Mondeo and Volkswagen Tiguan.
Hyundai i30
The Hyundai i30 provided the major surprise of the test, as it only scored four stars for adult occupant protection.
It's surprising because its near-identical cousin, the Kia Cee'd, receiving a five-star rating.
This is because the crash test dummy's right knee showed signs of injury, while the dashboard had structures that 'could harm occupants' knees and femurs'.
The i30 scored three stars for child occupant safety and two stars in the pedestrian tests.
Ford Mondeo
Ford's family car scored five stars for adult occupant safety, four stars for child occupant safety and two stars for pedestrian safety.
Inadequate warnings of the dangers of having a child seat in the front passenger seat with the airbag activated meant that the car could only gain a four-, rather than a five-star rating.
VW Tiguan
The new VW Tiguan 4x4 also scored five stars for adult occupant safety, four stars for child occupant safety and two stars for pedestrian safety.
The child occupant safety score suffered because of inadequate warnings of the dangers of having a child seat in the front passenger seat with the airbag activated - the sticker on which the information was contained could be peeled off.
