Cutting CO2 is child's play for Fiat

As far as Fiat is concerned – the future is child’ play. That will be the message of the company’s stand at next week’s Geneva motor show.
The stand itself is based on designs by children, and comprises houses built on clouds and a rainbow that welcomes visitors to the stand.
New engines on display
The centrepiece – housed in a special tree-shaped installation – is a brand new turbocharged two-cylinder petrol engine. This is the first of a new family of two-cylinder Twinair engines that will eventually offer power outputs from 64- to 104bhp.
Fiat says that, thanks to the same Multiair technology already used by Alfa , the new engines emit 30% less CO2 than a conventional unit of equivalent power.
Fiat 500 is first to benefit
The first model in its range to use the new engine will be the 500, in a version that's expected to be launched in September. Its 84bhp unit will emit just 95g/km of CO2.
Also on the stand will be a collection of other engine developments, including a dual-fuel 1.4-litre Doblo MPV and a face-lifted version of the Bravo with a 1.4-litre Multiair engine and an engine stop-start system that combine to limit its CO2 emissions to 132g/km.
Alongside this will be two new versions of the Punto Evo – one using the same 1.4 Multiair engine and another powered by a 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine with an Eco pack that helps it emit less than 100g/km CO2.
